Groin pain syndrome: an association of different pathologies and a case presentation

Abstract: Background: groin pain affects all types of athletes, especially soccer players. Many diseases with different etiologies may cause groin pain. Purpose: offer a mini review of groin pain in soccer accompanied by the presentation of a case report highlighting the possible association of more clinical frameworks into the onset of groin pain syndrome, in order to recommend that clinical evaluations take into account possible associations between bone, muscle and tendon such as inguinal canal disease. “…This case highlights that we should consider several differential diagnoses involving musculoskeletalrelated, hip-related and other aetiologies in athletes complaining of groin pain. 1 Osteitis pubis, a noninfectious chronic inflammatory condition without systemic inflammation, is particularly common in athletes who are involved in leg twisting sports. [2][3][4] Its incidence is relatively high; that of osteitis pubis is approximately 0.5%-8% in athletes, and male soccer players could be vulnerable to injuries (annual incidence, 10%-18%).…”

“…Preventing groin injury in field hockey is essential to reduce the burden on players and teams [ 2 ]. Thus, the implementation of preventive measures, the identification of the risk factors associated with the development of the injury, and the understanding of potential mechanisms exacerbating the severity of groin injury are paramount for this aim [ 3 ]. The complexity involved to ascertain the causes of groin injuries is well recognized, as in most cases the cause of injury is multifactorial [ 4 ].…”
