Grid‐tied photovoltaic system with series Z‐source inverter

Abstract: This study presents a grid-tied photovoltaic (PV) system based on the series Z-source inverter. The grid-tied current control strategy, the dc-link voltage control, as well as the maximum power point tracking scheme is realised in the single-stage system. The current control strategy is performed based on dq rotating frame. Indirect dc-link control is adopted to achieve constant peak dc-link voltage and thus can simplify the controller design in inversion stage. The overall control strategy is given and analys… Show more

“…With this in For utilizing the full benefit of PV units under different operating conditions, different types of ZSI topologies have been developed for PV applications where the main focus is to improve efficiency. Three new topologies for ZSIs are proposed in [11][12][13], which are named improved ZSI, embedded ZSI, and series ZSI. All these topologies overcome the limitations of the traditional ZSI by lowering the voltage stress and suppressing the inrush current.…”

“…The lower modulation index is considered as another limitation of the existing ZSI as this affects voltage gain and produces distorted output voltage waveforms [13]. These problems are avoided in several works of literature where new topologies such as an improved ZSI [12], embedded ZSI [14], qZSI [15], and series ZSI [16] are developed by introducing distinct impedance configurations. Most of these topologies are used to minimize the voltage stress on capacitors and switches along with the input inrush current reduction of the traditional ZSI.…”

“…In this topology, controlling of shoot-through state enables to control the boost feature with improved reliability. Further, various Z-source converter-based topologies are proposed in literature such as quasi Z-source inverter [17], series Z-source inverter [18], and trans Z-source inverter [19]. The literature related to Z-sourcebased topologies reveals that major focus is on DC-AC mode of operation and shoot-through control techniques.…”
