Grid Cell-based Algorithm for Workspace Overlapping Analysis Considering Multiple Allocations of Construction Resources

Abstract: When multiple workspaces for resources are allocated within a narrow work area, the constructability of work may deteriorate based on the conflicts that occur due to the mutual adjacency levels between the workspaces. In this situation, the identification of the workspace overlapping status is essential for establishing the optimized layout planning of workspaces. However, current 3D environments consider only physical collision and reaction by the cross verification of geometric properties to detect collision… Show more

“…To reduce the uncertainty and avoid the waste of resources in operations, simulation methods are frequently employed in the CSLP. Moreover, the methods, such as agent-based simulation (ABS) (Younes and Marzouk, 2018), cell-based simulation (CBS) (Pradhananga and Teizer, 2015; Moon et al , 2014), discrete event simulation (DES) (Elnimr et al , 2016) and virtual construction simulation (VCS) (Liu et al , 2018), have gained increasing popularity because of their potential for simulation model reuse and execution.…”

“…A penalty is usually imposed to comply with hard constraints. Similar to the AUA, the orthographic projection algorithm (OPA) (Moon et al , 2014) is exploited to check the overlapping status of facilities with occupied cells on the projection plane.…”
