Grid based data processing tools and applications for black sea catchment basin

Abstract: Abstract-This paper highlights the main functionalities, tools and applications provided by the BSC-OS portal, developed through the enviroGRIDS project. The presentation highlights the main issues of interoperability between geospatial and grid infrastructures, and between different platforms supporting the Earth Science oriented tools and applications. Other subjects such as spatial data management, hydrological model calibration, environmental scenario development and running, satellite image classification… Show more

“…Finally, the wide adoption of OGC standards among project partners facilitated the development and implementation of different software solutions and enabled communication between different computing infrastructures (Charvat et al ; Giuliani and Gorgan ; Giuliani et al ). This allowed large amounts of environmental data to be processed on distributed computing infrastructures to analyze high‐resolution satellite images or execute large hydrological models (Gorgan et al ; Gorgan et al , b; Bacu et al ; Balcik et al ; Mihon et al ).…”

“…One of these applications is gSWAT (Bacu et al, 2011b;Gorgan et al, 2011), which is used to calibrate and validate SWAT hydrological models and to perform uncertainty analysis using the grid infrastructure. The gSWAT application contains a graphical user interface and a service related component.…”

“…Besides the system architecture, they also present some test cases along with the obtained performances, pointing out the benefits brought by the grid. The gSWAT application is available through the enviroGRIDS portal (see http://www.envirogrids.net/) together with other Earth Science oriented applications (Gorgan et al, 2011).…”

“…In the course of the enviroGRIDS (Building Capacity for a Black Sea Catchment Observation and Assessment System supporting Sustainable Development; 2009-2013) project, the GreenLand platform (Mihon, Colceriu, Bacu, & Gorgan, 2013) , a grid-based infrastructure, was developed and improved (Gorgan, et al, 2011) (Balcik, et al, 2013). The GreenLand platform provides GIS services related to spatial data management, processing, analysis, and visualization.…”
