Grey shade of work environment triad – effect of supervisor ostracism and perceived organizational obstruction on employees' behaviour: a moderated-mediation model

Abstract: PurposeThis study, based on the moderated-mediation model, investigates the indirect effect of facades of conformity in the relationship between supervisor ostracism and unethical work behaviour. Furthermore, this study tested the moderating role of perceived organizational obstruction in the aforementioned relationship through facades of conformity.Design/methodology/approachEmploying a multi-wave and two-source data from employees and peers (n = 264) of the services sector in Pakistan, the authors tested the… Show more

“…Though the current research is not free from limitations, those limitations can be focused upon in future studies. That consumer negativity toward brand is gaining attention implies that there are interlinked areas that require examination by researchers; future studies should examine the role of personality traits responsible for propagating the feeling of hate ( Sternberg, 2003 ; Hegner et al, 2017 ; Akhtar et al, 2020b ). As argued by Sternberg (2003) , in addition to retaliation and revenge, ignoring or doing nothing with regard to the hated object might be an individual’s response.…”

“…Developing a conceptual integrated model is critical for managing the obscure and subtle destructiveness of leadership ostracism on employees and organizations (Akhtar et al, 2020 ). For supervisors, both strong supervisory skills and control (e.g., policies, command, or system) are the guarantee for maintaining effective management and achieving appropriate checks and balances in the workplace.…”

“…The results of CFA for firm‐level outcomes (see Table 1) indicated that goodness of fit indices of one‐factor model (χ2 = 274.88, p < .05; TLI = 0.25; CFI = 0.55; RMSEA = 0.32) are poor than the goodness of fit of the two‐factor model (χ2 = 15.74, p < .001; TLI = 0.97; CFI = 0.98; RMSEA = 0.05). Due to a large number of construct's items we used the balanced items parceling technique (3 to 4 parcels per construct) (Little, Rhemtulla, Gibson, & Schoemann, 2013), recently many studies used parceling technique for CFA (Akhtar, Syed, Javed, & Husnain, 2020). The CFA results of measurement model (see Table 1) indicated that goodness of fit indices of full model one‐factor model (χ2 = 4,229.51, p < .05; TLI = 0.26; CFI = 0.32; RMSEA = 0.21) are poorer than the goodness of fit of the full model seven‐factor model (χ2 = 1,005.13, p < .001; TLI = 0.988; CFI = 0.90; RMSEA = 0.08).…”
