Greenhouse gases emissions and agronomic productivity as influenced by varying levels of N fertilizer and tank silt in degraded semiarid Alfisol of Southern India

Abstract: The study aimed to assess the effects of combined application of urea nitrogen (N) and tank* silt (TS) on greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions [i.e., carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) and nitrous oxide (N 2 O)] and agronomic productivity of maize-horsegram system. A factorial [urea (0, 60, 120, and 180 kg N ha À1 )] and tank silt (0 and 30 t ha À1 ) replicated thrice randomized block design was employed for this investigation. Results of the study showed that maize grain yield was significantly influenced by the sole applicat… Show more

“…In addition to soil salinization, studies investigated the impacts of the application of organic amendments on soil carbon, structure (Schweizer et al, 2022), crop yield, and greenhouse gas emissions (Reddy et al, 2023). Schweizer et al (2022) compared the impact of 7 years of organic farming (annually 13.6 t ha À1 of composted manure) with conventional practices (2 t ha À1 of farmyard manure with 150-170 kg N ha À1 of mineral fertilizers).…”
