“…Myrecetin and epicatechin-5-gallate have been shown to inhibit heparininduced tau formation 77 and EGCG administration in Alzheimer transgenic mice leads to modulated tau profiles, with suppression of sarkosyl-soluble phosphorylated tau isoforms. 70 Other studies using GSPE have also shown its capability to inhibit tau neuropathology in a mouse model of AD, inhibiting tau peptide aggregations, as well as dissociating preformed tau peptide aggregates and disrupting PHFs. 78−81 Interaction of flavonoids with signaling pathways important for tau phosphorylation will be further discussed in the next section.…”

“…To demonstrate the effect of EGCG on tau, Tg mouse brain homogenates treated with EGCG or with PBS as control were compared and the levels of soluble phosphorylated tau were decreased in samples treated with ECGC. Hence, natural Cindy Beharry, et al Tau-induced neurodegeneration: mechanisms and targets 353 antioxidant-containing compounds might be effective for treating tauopathies [123] .…”

Hence, natural Cindy Beharry, et al Tau-induced neurodegeneration: mechanisms and targets 353 antioxidant-containing compounds might be effective for treating tauopathies [123] .There are also synthetic compounds currently in phase II clinical trials such as Minocycline, Methylene Blue, and Tideglusib [113] . They have been successful in preventing tau aggregation, yet the effectiveness in therapy remains to be tested [121] .…”

“…EGCG reduced the toxicity of Aβ in pheochromocytoma and neuroblastoma cell models [66,67]. Green tea extract decreased the formation of amyloid deposits [68,69] and the loss of spatial learning ability in a mouse model of [70]. In a rat model, there was an increase in learning ability with long-term EGCG treatment [71].…”

“…Oral administration of EGCG (50 mg/kg body weight) to AD-model mice (tg2576) decreased plaque load and rescued cognitive performance [69]. Plasma concentrations close to 1 μM were achieved in mice after oral administration of EGCG (75 mg/kg) [105].…”
