Salt Tolerant Microbes are a group of microorganisms that grow, develop, and survive in extremely high salt concentrations. Based on their tolerance level they generally grow up optimally at pH values beyond 9.0, but the growth is inhibited at the pH value that is most closely associated with neutral 6.5. They have minimal dietary needs and a good salt quantity that is high enough to osmotic pressure. They can produce biological metabolites that have certain actions such as antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant, and anticancer. We discussed in this article various pharmaceutical formulations of salt-tolerant microbes, every formulation shows the specific pharmacological actions like anti-cancer activity, anti-oxidant activity, and anti-microbial activity, and also discusses methods for the biosynthesis of salt-tolerant microbes’ nanoparticles.

Macrolide drugs are among the broad-spectrum antibiotics that are considered as “miracle drugs” against infectious diseases that lead to higher morbidity and mortality rates. Nevertheless, their effectiveness is currently at risk owing to the presence of devastating, antimicrobial-resistant microbes. In view of this challenge, nanotechnology-driven innovations are currently being anticipated for promising approaches to overcome antimicrobial resistance. Nowadays, various nanostructures are being developed for the delivery of antimicrobials to counter drug-resistant microbial strains through different mechanisms. Metallic nanoparticle-based delivery of macrolides, particularly using silver and gold nanoparticles (AgNPs & AuNPs), demonstrated a promising outcome with worthy stability, oxidation resistance, and biocompatibility. Similarly, macrolide-conjugated magnetic NPs resulted in an augmented antimicrobial activity and reduced bacterial cell viability against resistant microbes. Liposomal delivery of macrolides also showed favorable synergistic antimicrobial activities in vitro against resistant strains. Loading macrolide drugs into various polymeric nanomaterials resulted in an enhanced zone of inhibition. Intercalated nanomaterials also conveyed an outstanding macrolide delivery characteristic with efficient targeting and controlled drug release against infectious microbes. This review abridges several nano-based delivery approaches for macrolide drugs along with their recent achievements, challenges, and future perspectives.

Herein, single step biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) is reported by using AgNO3 and Monstera deliciosa (MD) leaf extract. Spherical AgNPs are obtained with difference in particle sizes and antibacterial activities using two sets of MD leaf extract having different heating periods 5 and 10 min. They are characterized by UV–vis spectroscopy, X‐ray diffraction (XRD), Zeta potential, Attenuated Total Reflectance Infrared Spectroscopy (ATR‐IR), and Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE‐SEM). Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) studies propose two types of AgNPs have hydrodynamic diameters of 104 and 80 nm. Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), Gas Chromatography‐Mass Spectrometry (GC‐MS), and High Resolution−Mass Spectrometry (HR‐MS) studies, which reveal the presence of various phytochemicals found in MD leaf extract. These biomolecules play a vital role as stabilizing and reducing agents to fabricate stable AgNPs. These AgNPs exhibit strong antibacterial activities having effective zone of inhibition for both Gram‐positive (Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis) and Gram‐negative (Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa) microorganisms, nonetheless AgNPs against different fungi (Penicillium sp., Aspergillus flavus, Fusarium oxysporum, Rhizoctonia solani) show non‐antifungal characteristics because of their inert nature. This study suggests that AgNPs can be used in treating bacterial infections and drug delivery also for several therapeutic and diagnostic applications.
