Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles using aqueous extract of hot chili pepper fruits and its antimicrobial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa

Abstract: Green synthesis of different nanoparticles using the plants aqueous extracts has several advantages over other methods due to the environmentally favorable nature of plants. moreover, such approach is also cost effective. This work describes the biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) with the use of the aqueous extract of dry pericarps of hot chili peppers and cv. Carolina Reaper) with different levels of pungency and their antibacterial effect on the antibiotic resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Phytoc… Show more

“…Then, to test the effectiveness of the synthesis of the AgNP-decorated ZnO NPs, four experimental mixtures were made: 2 mL of the ZnO NP solution was mixed with 2 mL of 0.001 M silver nitrate (AgNO 3 ); 1 mL of the ZnO NP solution was mixed with 3 mL of 0.001 M silver nitrate (AgNO 3 ); 3 mL of the ZnO NP solution was mixed with 1 mL of 0.001 M silver nitrate (AgNO 3 ); and 2 mL of the ZnO NP solution was mixed with 2 mL of 0.001 M silver nitrate (AgNO 3 ) and 1 mL of chili pepper ( Capsicum annuum ) fruit extract, which was pre-prepared according to the method described in ref. 23.…”

“…For the reduction of silver ions, 10 mL of extract was mixed with 40 mL of silver nitrate. The resulting solution was incubated under a light-emitting diode lamp (Secret Jardin, 42 W, 6500 K) for 1.5 h at room temperature for the development of AgNPs according to Smirnov et al 2021 .…”

“…Numerous methods of synthesis of colloidal NPs have been developed so far, 1,2,14, [24][25][26][27] with the facile methods of producing bio-compatible NPs being one of the main research focuses in the community. [28][29][30] Among the most oen used syntheses is the one leading to a colloidal system of spherical gold NPs based on a simple reaction reducing auric acid with either sodium citrate or sodium borohydride. 31 Sodium citrate is particularly interesting, as it is cheap and nontoxic and it does not only act as the reducing agent but its negatively charged carboxylates are also responsible for the charge stabilization of the AuNPs.…”
