Green Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles from Diospyros villosa Extracts and Evaluation of Antioxidant, Antimicrobial and Anti-Quorum Sensing Potential

Abstract: The biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) from Diospyros villosa leaves and stem bark extracts is described. The stem bark AgNPs of D. villosa synthesized at 80 °C (S80) showed good scavenging activity with a lower IC50 value of 8.75 µg·mL−1 compared to ascorbic acid (9.58 µg·mL−1). The total phenol content of the S80 AgNPs was measured and found to be 10.22 ± 0.14 mg.g−1 gallic acid equivalence (GAE). Bacterial growth inhibition (% GI) and violacein inhibition (% VI) of 10.08% and 58.83%, respectively,… Show more

“…Furthermore, the study by Pawłowicz et al [ 38 ] also affirmed the antioxidant potency of the leaf extracts of A. arborescens by their ability to demonstrate ABTS savaging properties. The profound antioxidant activity can be due to the synergistic effect of the detected phytocompounds within the extract [ 39 ].…”

“…Nanomaterials have a large burst intensity and extend to 2023, which may be a hot spot for research in the future. Nanotechnology can solve the limitations of traditional anti-QSA methods, such as side effects, delivery difficulties, etc., and improve antibacterial efficacy and safety ( Adu et al, 2022 ; Jeevitha et al, 2022 ; Kumar et al, 2022 ; Zahmatkesh et al, 2022 ; Zhang et al, 2022 ). Natural products, especially marine natural products are important resources for developing anti-QSA.…”

“…Obtaining AgNPs is of interest not only as a method and assessment of the level of reducing power, but also as an independent biotechnological process of creating a product (nanoparticles), which can find wide practical applications due to having anticancer effect, antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-hyperglycemic activity [18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25], as well as anti-quorum sensing potential [26]. Advances of such "green" silver, zink, gold, platinum, nickel, aluminum and iron nanoparticles are widely researched [27][28][29][30][31][32].…”
