Green Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles Stabilized with Mussel-Inspired Protein and Colorimetric Sensing of Lead(II) and Copper(II) Ions

Abstract: This articles reports a simple and green method for preparing uniform silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), for which self-polymerized 3,4-dihydroxy-l-phenylalanine (polyDOPA) is used as the reducing and stabilizing agent in aqueous media. The AgNPs functionalized by polyDOPA were analyzed by UV–Vis spectroscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Raman spectrophotometry, and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. T… Show more

“…XRD diffraction peaks of 76°, 64°, 46°, and 38°that correspond to crystal facets for (3 1 1), (2 2 0), (2 0 0), and (1 1 1) were found, as illustrated in Figure 5. ere is significant concurrence between face-centred cubic (FCC) structure [76,77] Ag crystal and the peaks, an indication of crystalline silver presence in silver nanoparticles. Diffraction peaks that corresponded to the precursors (AgNO 3 ) or by-products (for instance, silver oxide) did not exist, thus confirming that in situ formation of metallic silver was only possible through reaction of onion extracts.…”

“…However, copper ions are an environmental pollutant. If copper-containing pollutants are discharged without treatment, they will cause great harm to the environment [6,7]. If the human body is exposed to excessive copper ions for a long time, it will affect human health causing dizziness, nausea, muscle soreness, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and other diseases, and even lead to death [7,8].…”

If the human body is exposed to excessive copper ions for a long time, it will affect human health causing dizziness, nausea, muscle soreness, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and other diseases, and even lead to death [7,8]. Therefore, it is of great significance to design a copper ion detection sensor with high selectivity and sensitivity in the field of environment [9,10].…”

“…Figure 4 shows the XRD pattern of Ag NPs with different shapes. The crystalline peaks at about 38.0°, 44.2°, 64.5°, and 77.5°were assigned to the (111), (200), (220), and (311) planes, respectively, of a faced-centered cubic (fcc) Ag crystal, indicating that Ag NPs with different shapes were composed of crystalline Ag [27].…”
