Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles usingEucalyptus leucoxylonleaves extract and evaluating the antioxidant activities of extract

Abstract: This study was designed to examine the in vitro antioxidant activity of essential oil and methanol extracts of Eucalyptus leucoxylon. Furthermore, the polar fraction of the extract was used as a reducing agent for the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs). Antioxidant activities of the samples were determined by using three different test systems, namely DPPH and β-carotene/linoleic acid and reducing power. The structure and composition of the prepared Ag NPs were characterised by X-ray diffraction,… Show more

“…Among different nanoparticles exploited, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have been now recognized as developing therapeutic molecule and will surely extend their use as a drug carrier (Nasrabadi et al 2014). AgNPs play a significant role in the field of biology and medicine due to their particular physiochemical properties.…”

“…In addition, the rate of reduction of metal ions using plant extracts has been found to be much faster compared to microorganisms, and the stable formation of metallic NPs has been studied. 18 Several reports are available in the literature on the green synthesis of AgNPs using various plant extracts, including those from Plumbago zeylanica, 19 Albizia adianthifolia, 20 Pulicaria glutinosa, 21 Eucalyptus leucoxylon, 22 Acacia leucophloea, 23 Chrysanthemum indicum L., 24 Achillea biebersteinii, 25 and Lantana camara. 26 Therefore, many plant-based products have been used in the synthesis of AgNPs.…”

“…These methods have several demerits specifically high cost and toxicity in the biological system [10]. Recently, biological synthesis of SNPs by employing different plant extracts is considered as an inexpensive and eco-friendly method for large-scale production of SNPs [10,11]. Most of the plants employed for the reduction process also exhibit medicinal properties [12,13].…”
