Green Synthesis of Selenium Nanoparticles by Cyanobacterium Spirulina platensis (abdf2224): Cultivation Condition Quality Controls

Abstract: Selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) are well-known bioactive compounds. Various chemical and biological methods have been applied to SeNP synthesis. Spirulina platensis is a widely used blue-green microalgae in various industries. In this study, the biosynthesis of SeNPs using sodium selenite and Spirulina platens has been developed. The SeNP synthesis was performed at different cultivation condition including pH and illumination schedule variation. The SeNPs were characterized by FT-IR, XRD, size, and zeta potenti… Show more

“…Additionally, it is noted that the mechanisms of antioxidant activity present the opposite effect (there ishigher activity in DPPH vs. FRAP) when Se is in organic form, as reported by Alafeef et al [ 67 ]. Finally, the results obtained present similar trends to those presented by other authors when comparing between Na 2 SeO 3 controls vs. SeNPs, since SeNPs possess higher antioxidant activity than the inorganic Se source used for the synthesis of NPs [ 68 ].…”

“…This suggests that biomolecules involved in reducing and stabilizing Se ions to SeNPs in aqueous fruit extract may be present. In agreement with previous reports, the FT‐IR spectrum analysis in this study detected several absorption peaks, specifically for N─H stretching vibrations, indicating strong hydrogen bonding, and C═O extension vibrations, which were attributed to the Se ions reduction leading to nanoparticle stabilization by oxidizing the hydroxyl radical (Alipour et al, 2021; Shubharani et al, 2019). Different peaks at two–theta values in XRD results revealed the presence of SeNPs having trigonal SeNPs planes, while the peak at 2θ value of 24.72° was the sharpest, and the (101) plane, therefore, appears to be preferentially similar to the supporting substratum surface.…”

“…As a result, increasing the absorption point with an increased extract ratio is a trustworthy criterion, suggesting the synthesis of symmetrical nanoparticles, as previously reported (Alvi et al, 2021;Anu et al, 2017). (Alipour et al, 2021;Shubharani et al, 2019).…”
