Green Synthesis and Characterization of Silver Nanoparticles

Abstract

Abstract-Silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) were synthesized as green mode by using onion extracts. The onion extract was used as reducing agent as well as stabilizer. The green synthesized nanoparticles were initially confirmed by visual observation by colour change of the reaction mixture. The metal ions were reduced during the exposure to aqueous extract of onion. It was observed that the colour of the reaction mixture was changed into pale yellow to dark brown. The synthesized nanoparticles were further characterized by UV-Vis. spectroscopy, FTIR Spectroscopy, X-Ray diffraction,SEM,EDAX and Zeta potential analyses. The maximum absorption peak for silver nanoparticles was at 425nm. The phytochemical found in the onion extract were responsible for the formation of nanoparticles from silver nitrate. The FT-IR spectrum Ag nanoparticles the peaks from 2991.39 to 652.86cm -1 . XRD analysis clearly indicated that the average crystalline size of silver nanoparticles. The SEM analysis revealed that the green synthesized Ag NPs were spherical in shape. By using Zeta potential analysis, Ag NPs were confirmed by typical absorption peak at 3KeV. Further, based on the Zeta potential analysis, the stability of the onion mediated synthesized nanoparticles have good stability. The synthesized Ag NPs have an efficient antimicrobial activity. The antimicrobial activity was varied with species to species.
