Green modification of graphene dispersion with high nanosheet content, good dispersibility, and long storage stability

Abstract: An easy, green, noncovalent surface modification of pristine graphene (GR) was carried out by using a single-step method, resulting in the formation of a modified CMC-GR dispersion with 15% nanosheet content, the first reported in water.

“…From an industrial perspective, it is fast and easy to measure the optical transmittance of carbon materials while giving a repetitive and quick indication of dispersion quality. 23,27 Fig. 2a shows the transmittance spectroscopy of diluted commercial SWCNTs, modified P-SWCNTs-0.5%, 0.6%, 0.7% and PA-SWCNTs with incident light wavelength ranging from 200 nm to 800 nm.…”

“…Supporting evidence for the non-covalent modication of commercial SWCNTs comes from the thermogravimetry analysis. 27,28 Actual SWCNTs compositions of commercial SWCNTs, P-SWCNT and PA-SWCNTs at a temperature rate of 10 °C min −1 are shown in Fig. 6.…”

“…Firstly, the huge specific surface area and van der Waals forces make graphene difficult to disperse. 7,8 Secondly, when graphene is added to organic coatings, its excellent electrical conductivity will accelerates the electron transfer of the electrochemical corrosion, thus accelerating the corrosion of the metal being protected. 9,10 In order to solve these two problems in the preparation and service process of graphene in organic coatings, there are two methods of covalent and non-covalent modification of Gr.…”
