Green Machining and Forming by the use of Surface coated tools

Abstract: In metal cutting industries cutting fluids are widely used to obtain longer tool life and better surface finish of the component. In metal forming industries oil based lubricants are used to control friction, reduce die wear and thereby increase the surface quality of the component. The cutting fluids and lubricants used in metal cutting and forming industries represent 16 -20 % of the manufacturing costs and have several negative health and environmental impact. Green or dry machining is desirable for a clean… Show more

“…In this context, a saw tooth is generated due to the development of built-up edge. 72 The commencement of the saw-tooth chip instigation is because of an adiabatic shear on the cutting tool edge with a propagating pathway in the direction of the free surface. 73 As reported by Vyas and Shaw 74 saw-tooth features with brutal serrations of the formed chip validate the characteristic of hard part turning because of the periodic rise of cracks in the work surface due to plastic deformation.…”

“…The degree of hardness and speed of abrasive grains is extremely high. It is possible to achieve surfaces with high machining precision [38]. Because of the benefits of grinding, the temperature in this particular machining process can reach quite high temperatures, deepening the plastic deformation, which causes the remaining chips from the milling process to be small.…”
