“…Some view jealousy as a romantic expression of healthy couple relations, meant to protect the boundaries of the intimate relationship from external threats (Attridge, 2013; Pines, 1992), but others view it as an unhealthy intrusion that can harm couple relations. Support for this latter view can be found in instances in which romantic jealousy serves as a major factor in incidents of spousal violence or as a pivotal reason for conflicts among couples that lead them to marriage counseling (Attridge, 2013; Knobloch, Solomon, & Cruz, 2001; Shoshani, Shoshani, Kell, & Becker, 2012; Telesco, 2003).…”

“…From a personality perspective, it has been found that people prone to jealousy may suffer from separation anxiety and/or narcissistic sensitivity due to excessive parental gratification or frustration of basic needs. For these people, jealousy serves as a defense mechanism, aimed at limiting the independence and separateness of their respective partners (Shoshani et al, 2012). Several studies have also indicated that those who tend to be jealous are usually characterized by an ambivalent attachment style, high level of anxiety, external locus of control, manipulative tendency, paranoid and narcissistic personality features, low self-confidence, and a great need for attention (Buss & Shackelford, 1997; Guerrero, 1998; Leak, Gardner, & Parsons, 1998; Mishori-Shenkar, 1997; Peleg & Yitzhak, 2011).…”
