Green Emitting Photoproducts from Terrylene Diimide after Red Illumination

Abstract: The spectral properties of emissive photoproducts, formed upon 633 nm irradiation of a terrylene diimide dye, were investigated. Ensemble and single-molecule level experiments were conducted by immobilizing the TDI dye molecules in a polystyrene film. In the bulk experiments, green emission could be observed from the photobleached areas (photobleached with 633 nm light) when excited with 480 or 514 nm light. Similar phenomena were also observed at the single-molecule level. On the basis of the single-molecule … Show more

“…Single Molecule Measurements : Single molecule measurements were made on a homebuilt confocal microscope described in detail by Liao et al [ 52 ] Briefl y, a sample of silver nanoclusters was diluted in a saturated solution of PVA (Aldrich) in MQ water. This solution was spincast onto a clean glass coverslip (Menzel 22 mm × 22 mm × 170 µm).…”

“…UCCS time traces were acquired with ah ome-build confocal microscope. [19] The setup is shown in Figure S8 in the Supporting Information along with all optical components. We used the output of ac ontinuous wave Ti-sapphire laser (3900S Spectra-Physics) which was tuned to an emission wavelength of 977 nm.…”

“…When excited at 520 nm, the individual polycrystals’ emission spectra, recorded using confocal microscopy, have very similar FWHM (2751 cm −1 for the crystals and 2528 cm −1 for the solution, including the Jacobian correction), but are slightly blue‐shifted (λemmax ≈720 nm) with respect to the solution spectrum. The fluorescence spectra of five different crystals can be found in Figure S1 in the Supporting Information.…”
