Green Driver: driving behaviors revisited on safety

Abstract: Interactions between road users, motor vehicles, and environment affect to driver’s travel behavior; however, frailer of proper interaction may lead to ever-increasing road crashes, injuries and fatalities. The current study has generated the green driver concept to evaluate the incorporation of green driver to negative outcomes reduction of road transportation. The study aimed to identify the green driver’s behaviors affecting safe traveling by engaging two research phases. Phase one was to identify the safe … Show more

“…In recent years, the development of transport in the direction of environmentally friendly is very dynamic. It should also be included in the vehicle selection criteria (Boutueil, 2016;Muslim, 2018). The third strong trend concerns the direction of fleet management in the field of road safety.…”

“…Such systems are, according to the authors, the future-oriented system for improving road safety. It is worth noting that the Insurers have started using this type of solutions to promote safe driving and thus make the premium amount of insurance depends on the driving style (Darby et al, 2009;Muslim, 2018). GPS monitoring and other telematics systems are already widely used in transport activities, including caring for cargo safety, the correctness of tasks performed, working time settlement or accounting for fuel consumption.…”

“…The power model (Nilsson, 2004) clearly indicates a robust positive relationship between vehicles' speeds and crash severity. Numerous other studies established strong and positive correlations between drivers' speeding behaviour with crash involvement and severity (Alver et al, 2014;Cameron & Elvik, 2010;Faber et al, 2009;Gaca & Pogodzinska, 2017;Muslim et al, 2018;West et al, 1993). Several researchers have found strategies of speed management to be associated with reducing crashes and their severities.…”

“…Driving above the speed limit or above the recommended speed for a certain road situation is normally defined as an aggressive behavior (Fitzpatrick et al, 2017;Lee & Jang, 2019). Speed is a parameter that can be used to characterize driving behavior at the environmental level, that is, if the driver has an eco-driving behavior (Muslim et al, 2018), and it depends partly on the roadway conditions, including surrounding traffic, obstacles, pavement, and speed limits (Åberg et al, 1997;Haglund & Åberg, 2000). Faria et al (2017) used some variables such as speed and acceleration to classify driving behavior as aggressive and non-aggressive at urban areas.…”
