Green Corrosion Inhibition of Mild Steel by Hydrazone Derivatives in 1.0 M HCl

Abstract: In the present study, the inhibition performance of two synthesized hydrazone derivatives (HDZs), namely, (E)-N′-(2,4-dimethoxybenzylidene)-2-(6-methoxynaphthalen-2-yl) propanehydrazide (HYD-1) and N′-cyclohexylidene-2-(6-methoxynaphthalen-2-yl) propanehydrazide (HYD-2) on mild steel (MS) in 1.0 M HCl was investigated using weight loss measurements, electrochemical techniques, and scanning electron microscope (SEM) coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). The experimental data suggested that th… Show more

“…However, a significant decrease in the C dl with an increase in CI leaf extract was observed due to the decrease in the dielectric constant of the protective layer by replacing the pre-adsorbed water molecules. Decreased dielectric constant strengthens the adsorption capability of CI leaf extract [30,31]. This can be explained by better coverage and protection of the mild steel metal against dissolution, as confirmed by the increase in inhibition performance with the concentration of the CI leaf extract as shown in Table 2 Bode plots for mild steel in an acidic environment at varying temperatures (303-323 K) are represented in Fig.…”

“…Various BTA concentrations were added at 298 K to the corrosive medium in order to examine the effect of BTA concentration on the inhibition process. The corrosion rate in millimetres per year (mm/y) was determined by Equation (1) [ 9 ]: where the constant K is equal to 8.76 × 10 4 , and w and t represent the mass loss in grams and the exposure time in hours, respectively. The inhibition efficiency and the surface coverage (θ) were determined by Equations (2) and (3) [ 9 ]: where and are the corrosion rates in the presence and absence of various BTA concentrations, respectively, and θ is the degree of surface coverage.…”

“…Moreover, 1,1 -thiocarbonyldiimidazole [9], 5-(3-aminophenyl)tetrazole [10], sodium 2- (4-(benzo[d]thiazol-2-ylthio)-6-(hexylamino)-1,3,5-triazin-2-ylamino)ethanesulfonate [11], (3-amino-1,2,4-triazole-5-thiol and 1,1 -thiocarbonyldiimidazole) [12], (2-sulfhydryl)-(5-phenmethyl)-(1-(4-phenol)-methanimine)-triazole [13], 1-butyl-3-methyli midazolium chloride [14], polyethyleneimine [15], and cetylpyridinium chloride [16] have been tested as inhibitors for different species of iron in the same medium. With respect to hydrazones, some compounds have been examined as inhibitors in various media for different metals, especially for iron species, which have shown potential inhibition efficiency [17][18][19][20][21][22][23][24]. N,N -bis[2-hydroxynaphthylidene]amino]oxamide, which is regarded as one of the hydrazone compounds, was employed as a corrosion inhibitor towards the aluminum, copper, and carbon-steel in 1M HCl solutions using traditional weight loss measurements [25][26][27].…”
