Green coffee methanolic extract and silymarin protect against CCl4-induced hepatotoxicity in albino male rats

Abstract: Background During the last few decades, patients worldwide have been interested in using alternative medicine in treating diseases to avoid the increased side effects of chemical medications. Green coffee is unroasted coffee seeds that have higher amounts of chlorogenic acid compared to roasted coffee. Green coffee was successfully used to protect against obesity, Alzheimer disease, high blood pressure and bacterial infection. Methods This study ai… Show more

“…Numerous patients lean toward treatments using herbs and depend on traditional medicine to keep away from the unsafe side effects brought about by using synthetic medicines. Medicinal plants contain an assortment of natural products that show considerable antioxidant, antidiabetic, anticancer, and anti-hypercholesterolemic activity [ 16 , 27 , 45 , 46 ].…”

“…The protective effects of Coffea arabica L. oil against several chemical toxicants linked with the disruption of oxidative damage caused in investigated animals were reported by earlier research studies [61][62][63]. Green coffee causes a clear reduction of cholesterol, triglycerides, VLDL-c, LDL-c and elevates the production of HDL-c [64].…”

“…reported CCl 4 toxicity promotes inflammatory reaction at aggravated site of liver damage and potentiates oxidative stress (Ref. 89). However, green coffee methanolic extract exerted hepatoprotection by improving irisin and other antioxidants to reverse liver dysfunction, and converting inflammatory cytokines/oxidative stress indices to their normal values in the exposed rats.…”
