Green Cloud Provisioning Throughout Cooperation of a WDM Wide Area Network and a Hybrid Power IT Infrastructure

Abstract: The paper focuses on cooperation between cloud and network operators, as well as on fitting particular routing strategies to various cloud services. Three cooperation models are presented, analyzed and compared in the paper: the proposed model and two widely used reference models. The main difference between the models is the set of information being exchanged between the involved parties. Additionally, we analyze the applicability of four fitting schemas for each considered model. It is shown that the propose… Show more

“…In Algorithm 1, it is worth noting that the Hurwitz matrix F and the matrix T satisfying the Sylvester equation play the critical roles in solving the global output consensus value ỹ * (t) in steps 1 and 2, respectively. In addition, the solution of the Riccati equation in step 3 and the determination of the coupling strength c in step 4 are sufficient conditions for the synchronization of the system described by Equation (15).…”

“…The major characteristic of a wide-area network is the tight communication within clusters and sparse communication between clusters. This is particularly evident in post-disaster emergency communication systems [3][4][5], power grid optimization [6][7][8], internet of things applications [9][10][11][12][13], cloud computing [14][15][16], etc. In addition to the complex network topologies of wide-area networks, behavior emergence on such networks is also very fascinating.…”

“…Such a geographically distributed infrastructure requires efficient data transmission between fog and cloud re- sources. Wide Area Software Defined Networking (WA-SDN) is a promising solution due to its separation of data and control planes [9]. The control plane, denoted as an Software-Defined Network (SDN) controller, is a software entity, deployed separately from the network devices, that delivers forwarding rules to hardware and virtual devices via the OpenFlow protocol [10].…”

“…As a result, the monitoring module can enable several features, including optimization of complex infrastructures from the global point of view, full automation of service deployment combined with the capability to react to the changes in the data plane, on-demand placement of VNFs [27] or dy-namic modification of VNFCs combined with SDN-enabled traffic steering mechanisms to ensure the desired Quality of Service (QoS) level [6]. Furthermore, energy-aware issues in terms of joint online resource provisioning can be effectively addressed, as proved in [28] and [29]. The same approach can also be extended to the fog computing paradigm, which offers latencyaware traffic management based on the global knowledge of networking and computing resource conditions [30].…”
