Green Belt Implementation in Arid Lands through Soil Reconditioning and Landscape Design: The Case of Hermosillo, Mexico

Abstract: Green belts are an urban planning approach meant to address urban sprawl and enhance resilience. Many Latin American cities located in arid lands would benefit from the green belt; however, little is known about the factors that determine green belt implementation in these regions. The purpose of this study is to fill this gap by examining the case of Hermosillo, Mexico, a rapidly growing city located in a desert environment with an envisioned green belt. A cross-disciplinary team worked with city officials an… Show more

“…The report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China emphasizes the need to "ensure the security of food, energy resources, and important industrial supply chains". Enhancing the matching between regional water and soil resources and grain production is the primary prerequisite for improving production efficiency, easing the pressure on water and soil resources, and thus guaranteeing a stable supply of grain [5,6]. The matching of water and soil resources is expressed in the spatial and temporal distribution of water and arable land use at the regional level of agricultural production [7,8], which is directly related to the utilization efficiency of agricultural water resources and the grain productivity of cultivated land [9].…”

“…Zn showed moderate positive signi cant correlation with Pb (48, p value < 0.01) and Se (41, p value < 0.05). Ni presented a positive signi cant (p value < 0.01) and moderated correlation with Sb (59).Tl presented a weak positive signi cant (p value < 0.05) correlation with Zn(37) and Pb (39). Finally, Be was signi cantly, positively and weakly correlated with Sb (46); Co displayed a signi cant (p value < 0.05) positive and weak correlation with Zn (38) and Pb (41).…”
