Abstract:Deconfined quark matter may exist in a crystalline color-superconducing phase in the interiors of compact stars. One of the special properties of this exotic phase of matter is that it is extremely rigid and the corresponding shear modulus can be up to 1000 times larger than that of the neutron-star crust.
