Grassland coverage change and its humanity effect factors quantitative assessment in Zhejiang province, China, 1980–2018

Abstract: This study aims to make clear of grassland coverage change and quantitative assessment its effect factors. We collected the data from the National Bureau of Statistics (http://www.stats.gov.cn) and "China 20th Century Land Use/Cover Change (LUCC) Spatio-temporal Platform". Grassland coverage area showed an upward trend from 1980 to 1990, and the grassland coverage area is gradually decreasing from 1990 to 2000, and the grassland coverage area has not changed much from 2000 to 2018. The medium-coverage grasslan… Show more

“…Grasslands present the best plant‐based protein productivities and regulate nitrification processes (Jørgensen & Lærke, 2016 ). Separating the juice and the fibre fraction of grass, a variety of value‐added co‐products is obtained (including food and feed items), enabling the possibility to reconsider the role of ruminants as pivotal users of this land cover (grasslands represent 26% of total emerged surfaces; Lü et al., 2022 ). Green biorefinery schemes cannot only make grass proteins available to monogastrics and convert grasslands into net energy providers (e.g.…”

“…In our study, the spatial patterns of EAI and NPP suggest that there is no significant relationship between the enlargement of ecological restoration areas and the promotion of ecosystem quality. For instance, there has been a moderate rate of EAI increment and higher rate of NPP improvement in the eastern parts of the TRS region, including Maqên County, Tongde County, and Xinghai County, which have relatively low altitudes, a higher intensity of human activities, and higher grassland utilization, but also receives more investment in local environmental maintenance and governance [28]. Due to the continuous overgrazing by local pastoralists' cattle, the overall bare land patches show no obvious decrement, even though the frequent human intervention of grassland restoration has helped maintain and promote the NPP.…”

“…The calculation of FVC is commonly employed to evaluate the quality of the ecological environment, changes in land use and land cover, and the impacts of climate change on ecosystems [11][12][13]. Currently, there are two primary methods for calculating FVC: traditional ground measurements and remote sensing inversion [14,15]. Traditional ground measurement methods involve field sampling, visual estimation, photographic documentation, and instrumental monitoring [16,17].…”
