Graphite effect on the mechanical and fire‐retardant performance of low‐density polyethylene and ethylene‐vinyl‐acetate foam composites

Abstract: In this study, the graphite effect on the mechanical and fire‐retardant performance of low‐density polyethylene (LDPE) and ethylene‐vinyl‐acetate (EVA) foam composites was investigated. Polymer composites were prepared by melt mixing process and foamed by hot press molding at different graphite content (0, 3, 6, and 12 phr). Cone calorimetric tests through heat release rate (HRR) curves obtained, revealed a decreasing of 45% on peak heat release rate (pHRR) of foam composites LDPE‐EVA with 12 phr of untreated … Show more

“…For example, foam compounds containing 30 and 40 phr of treated GTR showed the highest cell density from 1.06 × 10 11 and 1.48 × 10 11 cells/cm 3 , respectively, that is attributed to the lowest mean cell size (55–48 μm). As observed in similar systems, [ 46 ] the cell densities gradually increased and mean cell size decrease with increasing GTR content.…”

“…Since the development of polymer microcellular composite foams, several studies have been conducted, 8,9 and also studies of foaming behavior of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) foam shows the importance of structure properties control 10,11 . In recent years, there has been extensive research on thermoplastic elastomer foam.…”

“…c) The possibility of forming mixtures with other polymers. In a particular case, the addition of EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate), a copolymer of vinyl acetate and ethylene, improves some properties of PE [224]. This feature makes it possible to tailor the polarity of the PE/EVA mixture, obtaining a better compatibility for the formation of nanocomposites with layered compounds.…”
