Graphene Quantum Dots Decorated TiO2 Nanostructures: Sustainable Approach for Photocatalytic Remediation of an Industrial Pollutant

Abstract: Industrial pollutants are one of the many contributing factors towards deterioration of nature, urging the scientific community around the globe to look for ways in which they can be eliminated. In this regard, we have developed and optimized an efficient photocatalytic system comprising of liquid exfoliated graphene quantum dots (GQDs) and TiO 2 , by carrying out a thorough study with different morphologies of TiO 2 ; namely, nanotubes, nanorods and nanoparticles. The nanocomposites were duly characterized us… Show more

“…Alternatively, modifying TiO 2 to utilize visible light and enhance its photocatalytic activity can be achieved through the synthesis of nanocomposites with various carbonaceous materials. This approach has been shown to be effective in several studies, 1,9–34 with graphene or graphene oxide being particularly promising. These materials offer a direct means of overcoming the low quantum availability and low adsorption capacity of pure TiO 2 .…”
