Graphene Quantum Dot‐poly(L‐lysine)‐gold Nanoparticles Nanocomposite for Electrochemical Determination of Dopamine and Serotonin

Abstract: A nanocomposite consists of AuNPs, GQD, and poly(L‐lysine) was prepared for highly sensitive electrochemical determination of dopamine (DA) and serotonin (5‐HT) neurotransmitters which are of vital importance in neurological disorders. The P(L‐Lys) GQD was successfully obtained a one‐step co‐electrodeposition of GQD and L‐Lys on the PGE. The electrochemical behaviors of DA and 5‐HT were analyzed via DPV and CV. LOD values for DA and 5‐HT were calculated as 0.03 μM and 0.017 μM, respectively. Also, the DA and 5… Show more

“…According to previous reports, healthy people’s average whole blood serotonin concentrations range from 500 nM to 1.7 μM. , Besides, low or high levels of production of ST concentration cause side effects, including irritable bowel syndrome, depression, carcinoid tumors, anxiety, fatal ST syndrome, and irritability. Also, it is crucial to determine the ST in human urine and biological fluid samples. Over the past few decades, various traditional approaches have been analyzed for the sensitive detection of ST in biological samples. Traditional techniques applied for the detection include high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), electrophoresis, spectrophotometry, mass spectrometry (MS), and fluorescence spectrometry. However, these techniques are very expensive and also with some limitations: the sample preparation process is tedious and difficult and the handling method is also imprecise.…”

“…12,13 Since, in the human body, both DA and 5-HT are present in the blood, their electrochemical detection at either individual or simultaneous levels using conventional electrodes is cumbersome due to severe overlapping of their oxidation potentials. 14,15 To address such complications, developing a rapid, sensitive, and stable electrochemical sensing material capable of sensing these biomolecules at individual/ simultaneous levels is of utmost importance.…”
