Graphene oxide functionalized with a Schiff Base for the removal of Pb(II) ions from contaminated water: experimental and modeling approach

Abstract: BACKGROUND: The current study suggests an experimental and modeling approach for the adsorptive removal of lead(II) ions from contaminated water sample. The Schiff base reagent, bis(salicylaldehyde)ethylenediimine (Salen) functionalized graphene oxide (GO) was applied as adsorbent. Salen functionalized GO was prepared and characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, zeta potential and… Show more

“…39 Furthermore, there are no shifts in peaks observed in the powder PXRD patterns upon coating and functionalization, indicating that there was no change in the crystallinity and the stability of the core Fe 3 O 4 MNPs due to surface modification. 40,41 While the well-developed peaks at some angles with sharp peak intensities indicate the crystallinity of the samples. Broad peaks, on the other hand, indicate that the particles are fine.…”

“…On the other hand, Dubinin-Radushkevich (D-R) isotherm describes a Gaussian energy distribution onto a heterogeneous surface which it is utilized to explain the adsorption mechanism (Brohi et al, 2020). It can be expressed as follows in Equations ( 4) and ( 5):…”
