Graphene oxide-assisted synthesis of bismuth nanosheets for catalytic stripping voltammetric determination of iron in coastal waters

Abstract: The article describes the synthesis of bismuth nanosheets (BiNSs) in the presence of a small quantity of graphene oxide (GO) which is helpful for the formation of twodimensional BiNSs and improves dispersity. The material, when placed on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE), is shown to enable catalytic stripping voltammetric determination of total dissolved iron without the need for adding a complexing agent. The average thickness and length of the BiNSs are 3 to 4 nm and 100 to 200 nm, respectively. The unique na… Show more

“…glassy carbon electrode [10][11][12], pencil-lead [13], iridium microwire [14], gold micropillar electrode array [15], etc. In addition, BFEs can be modified with different materials, such as graphene oxide [16], chitosan [17], and carbon nano-fragments [18]. Usually, a silver/silver chloride (Ag/AgCl) reference electrode with aqueous inner electrolyte and a platinum (Pt) wire counter electrode are needed to successfully perform the ASV measurement.…”

“…In recent years, inorganic materials with nanoscale dimensions have attracted broad interest because of their unique physical and chemical properties and extensive applications in various elds of science and technology, including catalysis and sensors. [1][2][3] With recent advances in nanoscience, the properties and performance of nanomaterials have been found to strongly depend on their morphology. 4,5 In particular, a great deal of attention has been shown toward the morphological control of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), which possess fascinating morphology-dependent electrochemical and catalytic properties.…”

“…18,19 Most of the electrodeposition methods used to obtain the DAuNs involved the use of different additives such as iodide, Nmethylimidazole, cysteine, and Fe(III) ions; such additives play important roles during the electrochemical growth of DAuNs. 3,[16][17][18]20,21 However, a question about this method had arisen because almost all of the DAuNs were obtained with the help of other additives in the electrolyte. Different strategies were necessary to remove these additives before used.…”

“…Electrochemical method [12][13][14] has been identified as an extremely sensitive technique for iron determination due to its advantages of low cost, fast analysis speed, quick detection, portable instruments, high sensitivity and selectivity. Nowadays iron was always detected by using mercury electrode as working electrode [15,16].…”
