Graphene-coated carbon fiber cloth for flexible electrodes of glucose fuel cells

Abstract: In this work, we fabricated flexible electrodes for a miniaturized, simple structured, and flexible glucose biofuel cell (BFC) using a graphene-coated carbon fiber cloth (GCFC). The areas of the anode and cathode electrodes were 3 × 10 mm2. The anode area was coated with the enzyme glucose oxidase, and the cathode area was coated with the enzyme bilirubin oxidase. No ion-exchange film was needed because glucose oxidase selectively oxidizes glucose and bilirubin oxidase selectively reduces oxygen. The power den… Show more

“…237 Finally, BOD adsorbed on graphene and coated on a carbon fiber cloth rendered hydrophilic by UVozone treatment led to a plateau current of 0.2 mA cm −2 . 357 Very recently, parameters influencing adsorption and electrocatalytic properties of BOD integrated in an electrochemically reduced GO matrix were investigated. 358 GO flakes with different negative charge densities were studied.…”

“…With the help of an immobilized mediator (dopamine) this biocathode was coupled to a GOx bioanode in a glucose/O 2 EBFC giving a P max of 112 µW cm -2 [56]. BOx immobilized on flexible 3D graphene coated fiber cloth can be applied in a glucose EBFC with a GOx bioanode, resulting in a P max of 34.4 µW cm -2 at 0.43 V [128]. In addition, an electrochemically produced graphene-based laccase biocathode can reach a DET catalytic current density of 1.0 mA cm -2 under stirring at 1,500 rpm [88].…”

“…Herein, for the first time, we demonstrate a unique sorption layer (multi-layered graphene nanostructures known as graphene flower deposited over PVA film), used to fabricate a fast, highly responsive, and extremely sensitive humidity sensor for future applications in printed electronics. GF material has attractive properties such as a large surface area of 500–2500 m 2 /g, transparent nature, remarkable conductivity, and highly crystalline structure [ 43 , 44 , 45 , 46 , 47 ]. As a result, graphene flower can be considered a viable choice for humidity sensing applications.…”
