Grapevine adaptation to drought: New candidate genes for the genotype-dependent response

Abstract: Grapevine requires irrigation supply for its cultivation, especially in the arid and semiarid geographic areas. As consequence of the severe climatic changes, water consumption is becoming more and more important as environmental and cost factor that needs to be reduced. Water deficiency can affect berry and wine quality depending on the extent of plant perceived stress, which is a cultivar specific trait. In a four-year project, we tested the physiological and molecular responses to water deficiency of two di… Show more

“…Vitis vinifera is a relatively drought-tolerant plant species (Cardone et al, 2019), but one of the few crop species considered to be sensitive to Cl -, along with citrus (Citrus ssp. L.), avocado (Persea americana L.), soybean (Glycine max L.) and faba bean (Vicia faba L.) (Li et al, 2017).…”

“…Studies modulated for 'Chardonnay's drought sensitivity characterized this variety as "anisohydric". At the physiological level, stomata closure is one of the first response to water stress, in order to prevent the hydraulic failure (Charrier et al, 2018;Cardone et al, 2019). Intrinsic OA closely expressed by the mean values of 0.932 ± 0.157 in 'Chardonnay' 15 Şt., 0.885 ± 0.152 in 'Fetească albă' 97 Şt., 0.818 ± 0.090 in 'Italian Riesling' and 0.816 ± 0.051 in 'Şarbă' 2 Şt.…”
