GPR application in Civil Engineering to search and detect underground Networks

Abstract: The industrial development and the intensive use of urban space lead to several problems in the management and operation of public services such as drinking water networks, sewer, telephone, gas, electricity, street lighting, and various cables and pipes that are buried either at footpaths or roadways. Damage or malfunction of pre-existing public services can potentially cause danger to humans. In order to minimize risks, GPR profiling was constructed as a tool of advanced non-destructive technologies leading … Show more

“…La résolution horizontale Rh de chaque antenne, en fonction d'une distance de 30 cm entre la surface du réflecteur et l'antenne, et la résolution vertical Rv peuvent être estimées comme suit. The horizontal resolution Rh for each antenna based on a distance of 30 cm between the reflector surface and the antenna and the vertical resolution Rv can be estimated as follows [7,[17][18][19]…”

“…While some studies have reviewed the general application of GPR in civil engineering [3,4] or focused on on-site inspections for specific constructions [5], there is still a notable lack of comprehensive critical evaluation of GPR's effectiveness in corrosion assessment for reinforced concrete. GPR has demonstrated its utility in detecting buried networks and examining reinforced concrete structures, thanks to its improved vertical resolution and strong signal reflection from high conductivity bars [6][7][8]. The authors' objective is to gain deeper insights into the capabilities and limitations of GPR in detecting and quantifying reinforcement corrosion, aiming to enhance corrosion assessment practices in civil engineering structures.…”

“…Ultra wide band technology is on more demand now a day due to its attractive features. The applications of UWB include GPR, military, microwave imaging, radars etc due to its huge capacity, powerful penetration and accuracy [20]- [22], [34]- [36].In GPR system antenna frequency is one of the prominent factors which decide the performance of the system.GPR system comprises 3 components radar gram, antenna and power supply. The control unit or radar gram emits electromagnetic radiation in to the surface of investigation, the reflected signal is collected by the antenna and display results on screen which helps GPR operator to determine results accurately.…”
