Gorilla in our Midst: An online behavioral experiment builder

Abstract: Behavioural researchers are increasingly conducting their studies online to gain access to large and diverse samples that would be difficult to get in a laboratory environment. However, there are technical access barriers to building experiments online, and web-browsers can present problems for consistent timingan important issue with reaction time-sensitive measures. For example, to ensure accuracy and test-retest reliability in presentation and response recording, experimenters need a working knowledge of pr… Show more

“…Irvine et al, 2018). While beyond the scope of this paper, we hope to facilitate such approaches by making all data of the current study available for reanalysis; the URL to the Open Science Foundation containing all materials is listed at the end of this paper.Based on the most accurate timing and presentation method found in this study (rAF and opacity), we assessed the accuracy with which keyboard and touchscreen devices can time stimuli.…”

“…The experiment was again created and conducted using the Gorilla Experiment Builder (www.gorilla.sc) (Anwyl-Irvine et al, 2018, October 29). This time, the participants completed a self-report language background survey in Dutch at the start of the experiment to verify eligibility (see the Participants section for the eligibility criteria).…”

“…Two subjects did not have computers with sound capability and were therefore tested in a laboratory at Birkbeck College. For all participants, testing was conducted via the Gorilla web experiment platform (www.gorilla.sc/about) (Anwyl-Irvine, Massonnié, Flitton, Kirkham, & Evershed, 2018).…”
