Good function and high patient satisfaction at mean 2.8 years after dual mobility THA following femoral neck fracture: a cross-sectional study of 124 patients

Abstract: AimsOur aim was to investigate function, health status and satisfaction in patients treated with primary dual mobility (DM) total hip arthroplasty (THA) after displaced femoral neck fracture (FNF).Patients and methodsFrom 2005–2011, 414 consecutive FNF patients received Saturne DM THA. At a minimum of 1-year follow-up, 124 (95 women) were evaluated with Oxford Hip Score (OHS), Harris Hip Score (HHS), health-related quality of life (HRQoL) measure (EQ-5D) and two functional tests: Timed Up and Go (TUG) and Sit … Show more

“…This study faced some limitations, most importantly, the lack of a control group. The participants were identified as the frailest and weakest out of a larger examined patient group [48], and we found it unethical not to offer some fall prophylaxis treatment in terms of training to all these patients. Another limitation was the variation in the participants' baseline function and the number of comorbidities, which may have limited the improvement for at least some of the participants.…”

“…There was a statistically signi cant difference in the rate of dislocation, with an incidence of 14.6% among bipolar HAs and of 4.6% for DM arthroplasties [41]. Patient outcome studies are also promising: in the cross-sectional study by Tabori-Jensen et al 89% of the 124 patients with dual mobility arthroplasties after a femoral neck fracture were satis ed with their surgical outcome, using health-related quality of life questionnaires comparable to the population norm with a mean FU of 2.8 years [42].…”
