“…In the present study, mRNA transcripts of cyp19a1a and of cyp19a1b were detected in ovary and brain respectively of reproductively mature female perch, A. testudineus . Findings thus corroborate earlier studies on the presence of two distinct cyp19a1 gene in most teleost fish (Barney et al., ; Chang et al., ; Goto‐Kazeto et al., ; Liu et al., ; Roy Moulik et al., ; Trant et al., ). The predicted gene and amino acid sequences of the partially cloned ovary‐ and brain‐derived cyp19a1a and cyp19a1b mRNAs displayed a high degree of identity with those reported for other teleosts.…”

“…Aromatase activity in brain and ovary was determined by estimating in vitro conversion of [ 3 H] testosterone to [ 3 H] E2 following the method of Chan and Tan, (1986) as used in our laboratory (Das & Mukherjee, 2013;Roy Moulik et al, 2016). For this, minced tissues were incubated with 140 pmol [ 3 H] testosterone (1 × 10 6 cpm, specific activity 95.0 Ci/mmol) for 6 h. At the end of incubation, tissues were separated from media and a portion of tissues from individual incubation were processed for protein estimation (Lowry et al, 1951).…”

“…Apart from eel, most of the teleost fish studied so far possess two aromatase genes, i.e. cyp19a1a and cyp19a1b, due to a duplication event in the actinopterygian lineage (Tchoudakova and Callard 1998, Tong and Chung 2003, Blazquez and Piferrer 2004, Zhang et al 2014, Chaube et al 2015, Roy Moulik et al 2016. The cyp19a1a gene, also known as "gonadal aromatase", is mainly expressed in the differentiating gonad and later in the ovaries and plays a key role in sex differentiation and reproduction in fish (Guiguen et al 2010).…”

“…The interplay between Nr5a1 and Cyp19a1 can regulate the development and function of the ovary (Gurates et al, 2003;Roy Moulik et al, 2016). In the current research, we showed that miR-1385p directly targets Nr5a1.…”

“…Nr5a1 enhances 17β‐estradiol levels by binding to key aromatase Cyp19a1 promoters to activate Cyp19a1 gene expression, which subsequently promotes estrogen synthesis (Lai et al, ; Wang & Gong, ). The interplay between Nr5a1 and Cyp19a1 can regulate the development and function of the ovary (Gurates et al, ; Roy Moulik et al, ). In the current research, we showed that miR‐1385p directly targets Nr5a1.…”
