Gold-bearing arsenopyrite and pyrite in refractory ores: analytical refinements and new understanding of gold mineralogy

Abstract: A multidisciplinary approach has been used to study Au occurrences within pyrite and arsenopyrite in four refractory Au ores from Colombia, France (Le Châtelet and Villeranges) and Portugal (Neves Norte). The Au was characterized by optical and scanning electron microscopy and analysed using electron and ion microprobes to determine Au distribution, with particular attention to spectral interferences in electron and ion m… Show more

“…However, it is not a gold-bearing mineral [3][4][5][6] . The major gold-bearing minerals in carlin-type gold deposit are arsenopyrite and arsenian pyrite [10,11] . Native arsenic found in quartz-vein type gold deposit forms later than gold deposition [12] .…”

“…Gold grades of many gold deposits are positively related to the abundance of arsenic-bearing minerals (such as arsenopyrite and arsenian pyrite) [3][4][5][6] . Based on the experimental results and geological characteristics, it was proposed that As was very important to transport Au in the hydrothermal system [2,[7][8][9][10] .…”

“…Numerous studies have been concerned with the content and distribution of Au in sulfide minerals, particularly in pyrite and arsenopyrite (e.g., Benzaazoua et al 2007;Wagner et al 2007;Cook et al 2009;Koglin et al 2010;Majzlan et al 2010; Thomas et al 2011). Pyrite has also been investigated for other trace and minor elements.…”

“…[3][4][5] The free-milling gold ores are being exhausted and the refractory ores are being discovered and processed. The number of new methods receives more and more attention from the metallurgist because its help to solve various problems during processing.…”
