INTRODUCTIONVANETs are vehicular ad hoc networks are specifically used to guarantee the road safety by facilitating the communication among road side units such as cars, scooters and vehicles, etc. This communication can be done only within a specific range such as 100 m to 300m. Due to its features the VANETs has become an important part of the Intelligent Transport system [2]. Since VANET is developed for human safetyand comfort, it has several applications. The safety applications include collision warning, collecting traffic information, blind crossing prevention, work zone warning, weather information, etc. Its comfort applications comprise parking lot payment, internet service such as sending emails, downloading files, etc. The main purpose of both the applications is toprovide accurate information to the driver and the users of the car. This life critical information should beprecise and securely transmitted from the source to the destination [4].For transmitting the data between small ranges of communication in order to obtain the inter-vehicular communication (IVC), the vehicles are required to be installed with the communication devices. Moreover, the surplus of newly developed services that includes vehicle positioned near to each other, like navigation security, games that can be played online, and exchange of information [1]. The scenario of traffic on the road is shown through the gateways or internet gateways that can be determined at irregular time periods along with the path that can give large bandwidth connection for a short range. Due to rapid motion, the cars are in the range of each internet gateway for a short duration of time.

Abstract-With the development of vehicular networks, it is possible to implement accident warning systems that directly (i.e., without any external supporting infrastructure) alert approaching vehicles. In this scenario, each vehicle is provided with a sensor that, under abnormal conditions, triggers an alarm message. A vehicle that receives this information: (a) warns the driver; and (b) relays such information to following vehicles for safety purposes. We here present an optimal algorithm for one dimensional (1D), multi-lane, strip-shaped portions of roads. It guarantees alarm messages are received along the minimum hop path, even when communications are asymmetric and transmission ranges vary from vehicle to vehicle. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first algorithm capable of reaching such performance under realistic wireless propagation assumptions.

Abstract-Ad hoc network is a part of wireless networking. MANETs and VANETs fall under the category of ad hoc networks. The MANET is the mobile ad hoc networks in which the nodes are self-organizing. The VANETs are also a type of ad hoc networks, but it operates on vehicular nodes such as cars, etc. IN this the communication between vehicular nodes are done by using the concept of broadcasting or dissemination. The term safety message dissemination or broadcasting refers to the sending a notification to all of the nodes in the network simultaneously. But broadcasting also has some issues like it can lead to broadcast storm, redundancy of messages, delay in message delivery, network traffic, etc. This study provides a brief introduction to the concept of ad hoc networks, MANETs and VANETS. The various broadcasting types are also represented in this paper. An overview of the work that had been done under this field by various researchers is also described in this.
