Goal Orientation Test: An Objective Behavioral Test

Abstract: The aim of the present research is to assess goal orientation (mastery and performance) by developing an objective behavioral test. We elaborated the Mastery Performance-Goal Orientation Test, a task that allows assessment of goal orientation along a single dimension. We studied its reliability and validity by conducting two studies. In Study 1 (N = 293 adults), the distribution of scores along the goal orientation variable showed wide variability and high internal consistency. The mastery-oriented participant… Show more

“…Participants with lower scores were classified as performance-oriented (as they tended to obtain a higher number of points regardless of the learning level they achieved), and participants who obtained higher scores were classified as mastery-oriented (as they were those who tried to understand the requirements of the task and learned how to do so during the process). Romero et al (2020) previously reported that MP-GOT showed high reliability (Cronbach's alpha was 0.97-0.98) and that predicted the scores of a learning task (R 2 = 0.56). In the present study, Cronbach's alpha was 0.96.…”

“…Mastery Performance-Goal Orientation Test MP-GOT (Romero et al, 2020) assesses performance-and mastery-orientation along a single bipolar dimension. It presents a 15 × 15 matrix (225 squares) within which 150 figures are randomly distributed.…”
