“…In addition to the standard postoperative treatment, the Study Group performed a 2-week daily rehabilitation training as outpatients in the second postoperative period (once the orthopaedic surgeon authorised full weight-bearing on the operated limb), aimed exclusively at strengthening the abductor muscles. In accordance with previous studies in the literature that demonstrated the effectiveness of a progression of hip rehabilitation exercises to strengthen the gluteus medius muscle in healthy and injured athletes, 24,25 THR patients were subjected to a specific sequence of exercises. Furthermore, in agreement with Jeong et al 26 , treadmill training with a 5% inclination, useful for gluteus medius strengthening, was also introduced.…”

“…The proposed program has been tested, for the first time, on a population of patients who underwent THR, since Philippon and Gowda’s studies of healthy subjects or athletes. 24,25 It is evident that such a specific exercise cannot be started before a patient has reached full weight-bearing on the operated hip, and therefore must be carried out as a second rehabilitation phase and be closely monitored, at least initially, by a physiotherapist. In the present study, all patients took part in the rehabilitation programme and no complications related to the presence of pain or the inability to perform certain exercises were observed.…”

Recently, rehabilitation protocols for the GM have included the slight hip flexion clam, side-lying abduction, and closed chain lateral lunges 9 ) . Nelson-Wong and Callaghan have suggested that exercise strategies for patients with low back pain should focus on core stability and gluteal rehabilitation.…”
