Abiotic stresses can increase the total fatty acid (TFA) and astaxanthin accumulation in microalgae. However, it remains unknown whether a unified signal transduction mechanism exists under different stresses. This study explored the link between nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase-derived reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the accumulation of fatty acids and astaxanthin in Chromochloris zofingiensis under three abiotic stresses. Results showed significant increases in fatty acid, astaxanthin, and ROS levels under nitrogen deficiency, phosphorus deficiency, and high-salinity stress. The introduction of the NADPH oxidase inhibitor diphenyleneiodonium (DPI) decreased the content of these components. This underscores the pivotal role of NADPH oxidase-derived ROS in the accumulation of fatty acid and astaxanthin under abiotic stress. Analysis of transcriptomes across three conditions following DPI addition revealed 1,445 shared differentially expressed genes (DEGs). Enrichment analysis revealed that biotin, betalain, thiamine, and glucosinolate may be important in stress responses. The heatmap demonstrated that DPI notably suppressed gene expression in the fatty acid and carotenoid biosynthesis pathways. Our findings underscore the pivotal role of NADPH oxidase-derived ROS in the accumulation of fatty acid and astaxanthin under abiotic stresses.

Ferroptosis is a novel form of lipid peroxidation-driven, iron-dependent programmed cell death. Various metabolic pathways, including those involved in lipid and iron metabolism, contribute to ferroptosis regulation. The gut microbiota not only supplies nutrients and energy to the host, but also plays a crucial role in immune modulation and metabolic balance. In this review, we explore the metabolic pathways associated with ferroptosis and the impact of the gut microbiota on host metabolism. We subsequently summarize recent studies on the influence and regulation of ferroptosis by the gut microbiota and discuss potential mechanisms through which the gut microbiota affects ferroptosis. Additionally, we conduct a bibliometric analysis of the relationship between the gut microbiota and ferroptosis in the context of chronic kidney disease. This analysis can provide new insights into the current research status and future of ferroptosis and the gut microbiota.

Over the past decade, precision medicine has garnered increasing attention, making significant strides in discovering new therapeutic drugs and mechanisms, resulting in notable achievements in symptom alleviation, pain reduction, and extended survival rates. However, the limited target specificity of primary drugs and inter‐individual differences have often necessitated high‐dosage strategies, leading to challenges such as restricted deep tissue penetration rates and systemic side effects. Material science advancements present a promising avenue for these issues. By leveraging the distinct internal features of diseased regions and the application of specific external stimuli, responsive materials can be tailored to achieve targeted delivery, controllable release, and specific biochemical reactions. This review aims to highlight the latest advancements in stimuli‐responsive materials and their potential in precision medicine. Initially, we introduce disease‐related internal stimuli and capable external stimuli, elucidating the reaction principles of responsive functional groups. Subsequently, we provide a detailed analysis of representative pre‐clinical achievements of stimuli responsive materials across various clinical applications, including enhancements in the treatment of cancers, injury diseases, inflammatory diseases, infection diseases, and high‐throughput microfluidic biosensors. Finally, we discuss some clinical challenges, such as off‐target effects, long‐term impacts of nano‐materials, potential ethical concerns, and offer insights into future perspectives of stimuli‐responsive materials.
