Gluon dissociation ofJ/ψbeyond the dipole approximation

Abstract: Using a nonrelativistic potential model, we calculate the cross section for the leading-order gluon dissociation of J /ψ by including the full gluon wave function. We find that the resulting cross section as a function of gluon energy is reduced by about a factor of three at its maximum value compared to that calculated in the dipole approximation that is usually adopted in theoretical studies. The effect of the reduced cross section on the J /ψ dissociation width is, however, small at finite temperature.

“…( 2). For the quarkonium reaction rate in the QGP, two main mechanisms have been considered: gluo-dissociation [18,19,20,21], g+Q → Q+ Q (also referred to a "singlet-to-octet" mechanism) and inelastic parton scattering [22,23,24], p + Q → p + Q + Q with p = q, q, g (also referred to as "quasi-free dissociation" or "Landau damping" of the exchanged gluon between Q and Q). In weak coupling the latter, although naively of higher power in α s , takes over from the former if the binding energy is much smaller than the Debye mass, E B mD ∼ gT .…”

“…The latter achieves a good description of the collision energy and rapidity dependence of ψ ′ and J/ψ production in d-Au and p-Pb collisions including expected shadowing effects on the parton distribution functions (see also Ref. [17]). However, rather unexpected results have emerged from recent measurements by the CMS collaboration [18] for the double-ratio of the nuclear modification factor, R AA , of ψ ′ over J/ψ in 2.76 TeV Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC (preliminary results are also available from ALICE [19]).…”
