The recent article on 'red cell-and platelet-derived microparticles in G6PD' is very interesting (1). Indeed, the antioxidative status change and the effect on the red cell and platelet in the G6PD cases have been confirmed for a long time (2, 3). However, at present, there are many concerns. First, Nanthakomol et al. did not use any matched control group in their study. Second, the confounding factors were not controlled. The external source of stress that can affect the red cell and platelet must be discussed. At least, drug use and environmental pollution might affect the studied parameter. Also, the other concurrent diseases such as thalassemia and hemoglobinopathies (4), which are also common in the study setting, might alter the red cell and platelet. References 1.
