Global Warming Influence on Major Seasonal and Intra-seasonal Rainfall Indicators for Sustainable Cocoa Production in West-central Côte d'Ivoire

Abstract: Ivorian cocoa production, which still remains the driving force of the national economy today, despite the increasingly pronounced diversification of the State's resources, has long benefited from relatively favorable climatic conditions. However, since the 1970s, recurrent disruptions in key rainfall indicators for cocoa production have posed significant risks to the yields and incomes of many Ivorians who depend directly or indirectly on the agronomic performance of this speculation. Using a methodological a… Show more

“…The soil at the experimental site (pedo-horizon A: 0 to 15 cm depth) had the following characteristics: (i) clay content of 224-447 g kg −1 ; (ii) soil organic carbon (SOC) of 6.4-9.7 g kg −1 ; (iii) total nitrogen (N) of 0.8 to 1.0 g kg −1 ; (iv) total phosphorus (P) of 94.5-138.8 mg kg −1 ; (v) available P of 0.8-2.4 mg kg −1 ; (vi) exchangeable potassium (K ) 0.1-0.2 cmol kg −1 ; (vii) magnesium (Mg 2 ) of 0.4-1.1 cmol kg −1 ; (viii) calcium (Ca 2 ) of 2.1-3.3 cmol kg −1 ; and (ix) pH water ranging from 5.1 to 5.9 (CNRA, unpublished technical report). These soils are generally considered suitable for cacao cultivation (Ehounou et al, 2019).…”

“…Low genetic differentiation (FST < 0.05) and genetic distances (0.03 < D < 0.09) were observed between hybrid families F2, F8, F10, F11, F12, F13 and F14 and their respective parents. These results con rm the legitimacy of the hybrids created and suggest that the manual pollination work carried out on CNRA sites is reliable for faithfully reproducing hybrid material knowing the parents involved.Annual rainfall at the site ranges from 1.200 mm to 1.400 mm/year. Average temperature is 27°C and relative humidity is 85% (Ehounou et al, 2019).…”
