Global Synthesis Method for the Optimization of Multifeed EBG Antennas

Abstract: This paper presents a novel technique for synthesizing a given radiation pattern from an EBG antenna with an array feed. The method determines the optimum sets of input waves and input impedances for the feed ports in order to perform simultaneously the radiation pattern and the impedance matching of all the radiating probes that form the array feed. The method is validated through a numerical design of an EBG antenna excited with four patch antennas. The structure is designed to radiate with a single lobe sca… Show more

“…The feed network has been designed in order to deal with the coupling. The method used to obtain the optimized weighting and input impedances is based on a synthesis procedure developed previously in the laboratory [1]. The design of the microstrip feed network has been made with the Agilent ADS (Momentum) software in order to perform the weights and the impedance matching specified in Table 1.…”

“…This paper focuses on the development of a distinct and precise PA model, in order to quantify its impact on Tx-chains. However, some load impedances used for validation were calculated using an electromagnetic macro-model representing an antenna array [2], [3]. This macro-model takes into account the strong mutual coupling between the array's antennas and allows the calculation of necessary weights (amplitudes and phases), in order to obtain an optimum radiation pattern (high gain with low side lobes levels), while taking into account the calculated load impedance (ZL≠50Ω) of each antenna in the array according to the frequency and the pointing angle.…”
