Global research trends in non-muscle invasive bladder cancer: Bibliometric and visualized analysis

Abstract: BackgroundBladder cancer is one of the most common urological cancers. Non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) accounts for about 75-85% of all newly diagnosed bladder cancers. Globally, there are many NMIBC-related publications. However, a bibliometric analysis of these publications has not been performed.ObjectiveThis study aims to systematically analyze and visualize NMIBC-related publications through bibliometrics, and to reveal identified topics, hotspots, and knowledge gaps in related fields.MethodsBa… Show more

“…Although a bibliometric analysis was carried out between the years 2001 and 2022, it was limited to NMIBC only and found 2185 articles globally, with the United States, China, and Italy ranking first, second, and third, respectively, with 559, 315, and 262 articles. [18] Our results show that the top 3 Arab countries in terms of the number of BC publications (Egypt, Jordan, and KSA) have comparable numbers to the top three countries listed in the previous study. This indicates that a part of the AW is actively addressing the issue of BC and efforts are being made to progress in this field, given the high incidence and mortality ASRs in the region, which is not expected to significantly decrease in the near term.…”

“…The disease exhibits diverse histopathological subtypes, including invasive, non-invasive, and normal tissue, necessitating tailored therapeutic approaches. Precise and dependable classification of these subtypes is critical for determining appropriate treatment modalities, such as surgery, radiation therapy, or immunotherapy, while also assessing the likelihood of disease progression and recurrence [3]. Moreover, accurate bladder classification contributes to optimizing patient care by facilitating early detection of aggressive tumors and enabling personalized medicine, ultimately leading to enhanced survival rates and improved quality of life for individuals afflicted by this multifaceted ailment.…”
