Global perspectives on environmental kuznets curve: A bibliometric review

Abstract: The environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) explains the dynamics associated with income and environmental quality. This study utilizes bibliometric analysis and data visualization techniques and empirically determines the tendencies and patterns in the EKC literature. Furthermore, the study explains intellectual structure, construct development, evolution, collaborations, and research clusters within the EKC research domain during the last two decades, from 2000 to 2020. The study empirically analyzes 2,218 article… Show more

“…However, on the one hand, most of the articles that provide a comprehensive contextualization of the EKC literature are not focused on the EKC theoretical background or critical analysis, instead, they are focused on an empirical analysis [ 47 , 48 , 49 , 50 ]. On the other hand, articles focused on the evolution of the EKC literature use specific approaches to assess the EKC literature, such as meta- and bibliometric analysis [ 25 , 51 , 52 ], which provide the research areas on the subject, the author's contribution and most cited authors, journals that are publishing on the subject, and keywords used. Differentiated from these, the present review article is focused on providing an extensive and comprehensive contextualization of the EKC framework, the evolution of the literature, current analysis, and critical analysis that addresses gaps, issues, and improvement needs.…”

“…As a pioneer, they first revealed the inverted U-shaped curve relationship between average income and environmental pollution, known as the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC). Since then, studies have begun to explore the relationship between economic growth and environmental pollution (Ansari 2022 ; Anwar et al 2022 ). In the early stage of economic development, environmental pollution will worsen with the continuous negative impact of socio-economic activities.…”

“…The objective of this study is to conduct a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the use of ML in biofilm research to gain insights into the current state of the field [11]. Bibliometrics is a quantitative analysis of scientific publications that provides valuable insights into the structure, dynamics, and trends of a particular research area [12,13]. A bibliometric analysis of ML in biofilm research can identify the most influential publications, authors, and institutions in the field, as well as the most common research topics and trends [14].…”
