Abstract:This entry discusses the role of English at the intersection of hip‐hop and globalization. The dominant global status of English combined with hip‐hop's historical ties to African American language and culture generates tensions and local innovations that function as pedagogical processes in their own right. These processes are examined in light of their potential to enrich our understanding of language use, in a broader sense, and English language teaching and learning, in particular.
