S c h w e d e r 1 )The investigation of the transcriptome and the proteome is a powerful approach in order to get a more comprehensive view on the physiological state of cells under bioprocess conditions. These techniques enable to explore bottlenecks of industrial strains and could finally help to design improved host cells for large-scale bioprocesses in order to reach maximal yields of the desired product. Furthermore, this information could be used to improve the bioprocess performance and thus to get a more economical production process. The data, which will be presented, give new insights into the physiological response of B. subtilis at the transcriptional and protein level during a fed-batch fermentation process and thus under conditions, which are frequently applied for the overproduction of recombinant proteins. The aim of this work was to obtain a more comprehensive understanding of the physiological state of B. subtilis during an industrialclose bioprocess.
