“…Most research on CSR in developing countries has either generalized about all developing countries or focused at the national rather than regional level (Ali, 2022; Aqif and Wahab, 2021; Ben and Ben, 2022; Bhatia and Makkar, 2020; Dartey-Baah and Amoako, 2021; Diers-Lawson et al , 2020). In terms of generic literature, CSR is a useful compendium, as special issues on corporate citizenship have appeared in literature (Ebaid, 2022; Fleming and Jones, 2013; Frynas, 2005; and Ikram et al , 2020).…”

“…More broadly, many of the drivers of CSR identified by past studies are likely intertwined rather than isolated from each other. Consequently, to further clarify our understanding of CSR in SMEs, recent authors highlight the need for investigating possible mediating mechanisms among the drivers of CSR (Dartey-Baah and Amoako, 2021).…”

In today's dynamic and complex business environment, where society demands solutions to complex phenomena such as climate change, unemployment, migration and demographic changes (Dartey-Baah and Amoako, 2021), SMEs face the imperatives of sustainability and social responsibility, which have emerged as significant trends in business (Oduro et al , 2021). Thus, many companies have to change their systems and processes to reduce environmental impact, produce environmentally friendly products and find ways of improving the well-being of communities within which they operate (Aguilera et al , 2007).…”
